      <image:title>Who We Are - Jackson Williamson</image:title>
<image:caption>Jackson Williamson—known to most as Jax—joined the Board of Bike Davis in 2020. A daily bike commuter since sixth grade, Jax began his advocacy by working to improve safety around his junior high drop-off zone. He works as a network engineer supporting schools across the region and has a lifelong fascination with transportation systems, with a particular admiration for Japan’s efficient and accessible transit systems. Jax is particularly interested in making biking in Davis more usable and intuitive for all ages and abilities, with the goal of encouraging more people to choose bikes for their everyday travel.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Who We Are - Anthony Palmere Secretary</image:title>
<image:caption>Anthony recently retired after a 40-year career in public transportation, including working in Boston, Sacramento, Chicago, and New York before most recently serving as Unitrans General Manager here in Davis. Since moving to Davis in 1993, the Palmere family has relied on cycling as their primary means of transportation. During that time, Anthony has served on city and regional committees related to transportation, including the original Davis Bicycle Advisory Committee. He is a lifelong alternative transportation advocate and teacher.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Who We Are - Nico Fauchier-Magnan</image:title>
<image:caption>Nico works as an energy efficiency engineer with UC Davis. He has been biking since his teenage years in the streets of Paris, and later in San Francisco, where he was also actively engaged with the SF Bicycle Coalition. His vehicle of choice is his Nihola cargo tricycle, which he rides all over Davis.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Who We Are - Darell Dickey</image:title>
<image:caption>Darell transports himself and his gear by bike for all of his local work, fun, social, errand, shopping dining and beer needs. He has been on the city’s Bicycle Advisory Commission, on the board of the Davis Bike Club and is a police volunteer working to improve protections and convenience for people on bikes. He has created and assisted in several bicycle theft-prevention programs and is focussed on improving the infrastructure around town to invite more non-motorized transportation. His study of “livable” cities and infrastructure from around the world has shown him that calm and comfortable people-optimized streets result in a better place to live.</image:caption>

<image:title>Who We Are - Sanne Stark Fettinger Treasurer</image:title>
<image:caption>Sanne grew up in Denmark, where biking to school is the most natural thing to do. She grew up on bikes and horses. She has worked in Switzerland, where biking to work was the thing to do, and lived on the east coast for 12 years. She is happy to be in Davis since 2004 and biking every day! Sanne started the Scan and Notify program in the Davis school district at Birch Lane Elementary, working with its creator Tim Starback. She continues to enjoy promoting active transportation for all age groups. Happy biking.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Example of a standard intersection design: the bike lane striping ends at the approach to the intersection, then resumes with no obstructions to the natural, direct path of bicycle travel along the right side of motor vehicle travel. Pictured here is Covell at F Street, looking east (about 1/2 mile west of L Street).</image:caption>

      <image:title>Mace Blvd - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>Above: Traffic queues up on Mace on a Thursday evening in August 2018, when the street had 2 northbound lanes of traffic and drivers already used it as a freeway bypass route. Congestion on I-80 typically starts at the 113 interchange, where I-80 abruptly drops from 6 lanes to 3 lanes, causing major friction and slowdowns. Navigation apps then direct drivers to alternative routes (Tremont Rd to Mace, or Hwy 113 to Covell) ; as these drivers re-enter I-80, they cause further friction and slowdowns upstream on the freeway, making the freeway slower and the alternative routes even more attractive. This vicious cycle needs to be addressed at its root by 1) working with Caltrans to reduce the number of lanes on I-80 at the 113 junction, and 2) making alternative routes less attractive to drivers.</image:caption>
